The Legacy of the SAR

some ideas just remain relevant…

The Legacy of the SAR (Stichting Architecten Research)

Public conversation with Frans van de Werf and Thijs Bax

As the ideas developed by the SAR (Stichting Architecten Research) appear to gain new relevance today, this public conversation provided a brief reflection of the origins of the SAR and how its ideas were not only developed, but also applied. Besides a clear focus on user-participation and co-creation of housing units and urban spaces, the work of the SAR laid the groundwork for various strategies and approaches to both architecture and construction, from modular and circular construction to adaptive reuse

Thijs Bax, former Dean of the TU/e Architecture Department and Frans van der Werf, the architect of the first pilot project using the SAR methods and principles for design and construction, discussed the various intentions and accomplishments of the SAR, while also reflecting on John Habraken's vital contribution.
